Seventh Post: Clothes

I know it's been an awfully long time since I've posted, and for that I do apologise. I am now however, on my "gap year" so intend to keep this blog very much up to date.

I thought I'd start out by posting some advice which I've been asked for in the past, that is, what clothes can I wear to hide my uneven shoulders and hips?

Providing that you have seen a medical specialist ie. a doctor or surgeon about your scoliosis, and they have you lined up for surgery or other treatments, there are ways you can cover up your curve as much as possible if you wish to do so. I am not saying this must be done at all, if you're proud of your curve like I was then... great! But it is also entirely understandable that you may want to hide it. So... here we go! This selection of clothes will be daywear aimed towards teenage girls like myself. However, if there's anyone out there who'd like me to expand this selection towards maybe younger children, men, women, clothes for going out at night... I'll be more than happy to do so!
DRESSES
Just some inspiration shown below.

This daisy trim shift dress will skim your waist and hips hiding an uneven waist. It is £28.99 and can be found on newlook.com.

Love this dress! Might even buy one for myself. The fabric won't cling so it won't show off any stick out hips or shoulder blades. Comes in lots of different colours, and is only £25 on asos.com! Also can be found in petite for those whose curves may mean they have a slightly shorter torso.

This is a lovely dress made of viscose so it'll hang nicely also without clinging. It is £33 from Topshop, so a bit of a splurge, but well worth it because up close the print is really pretty!
TOPS
A nice baggy top would be a good choice for those who are conscious of their shoulders or hips. These definitely don't need to be shapeless or unfashionable!

This cute floaty chiffon top is £20 and can be found on newlook.com. It would look great with leggings and big necklaces.

This cute top is £30 at Asos.com. Wearing it with skinny jeans or leggings will give you shape, whilst covering up your shoulders and hips.
If anyone wants more inspiration, let me know and I'll expand this post!
A word on shoes: it is a good idea to invest in a good pair of shoes if you have scolioisis, your back needs the extra support. This doesn't mean a bargain pair of flats from Primark! Honestly, buying a good pair with a small heel will support your back and help decrease any pain. Also be wary of heels, my back is always agony after wearing them. For winter I bought a good pair of sturdy boots from Russell and Bromley, they are the most amazing things ever and have done wonders for my back.
I really enjoyed this post and hope you get some inspiration from it. Just because your hips and shoulders are uneven doesn't mean you have to opt for shapeless unflattering clothes, just make sure the fabric won't cling.
An added bonus of the selection above is that they will hide any scars that don't want to be shown. I personally would choose to show my scar rather than not show it, maybe that's just me... it's a great conversation starter!
Bye for now

  1. I'm 59 years old and female. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago with COPD and I was beyond scared! My lung function test indicated 49% capacity. After having had flu a year ago, the shortness of breath, coughing and chest pains continued even after being treated with antibiotics. I've been smoking two packs a day for 36 years. Being born without a sternum caused my ribs to be curled in just one inch away from my spine, resulting to underdeveloped lungs. At age 34 I had surgery and it was fixed. Unfortunately my smoking just caused more damage to my already under developed lungs. The problem was having is that I enjoy smoking and don't want to give up! Have tried twice before and nearly went crazy and don't want to go through that again. I saw the fear in my husband and children's eyes when I told them about my condition then they start to find solution on their own to help my condition.I am an 59 now who was diagnose COPD emphysema which I know was from my years of smoking. I started smoking in school when smoking was socially acceptable. I remember when smoking was permitted in hospitals. It was not known then how dangerous cigarettes were for us, and it seemed everybody smoked but i was able to get rid of my COPD lung condition through the help of  Dr Akhigbe   total cure herbal medicine. my husband saw his testimony on the internet he used his powerful medicine to cured differents diseases. we contacted his email   [drrealakhigbe@gmail.com}   He has the right herbal formula to help you get rid and repair any lung conditions and others diseases, will cure you totally and permanently with his natural organic herbs,We received the medicine through courier delivery service.
